DESCRIPTION:Building on the enthusiasm and success of the very well-attended inaugural reception in Boston in October 2016\, alumni COL Ron Corsetti ’06 and CAPT Jim Spotts ’01 have laid on another event for NIU Alumni and allies in the Greater Boston Area. On Saturday\, 4 February 2017\, they’ve arranged a special guided tour of the Museum of WWII in Natick\, MA followed by a no-host luncheon at a nearby restaurant (TBD). The tour will be led by docent Mark Galluzzo\, Intelligence Branch Chief for the First Coast Guard District (Boston) who was the guest speaker at the October event. This event is open to NIU alumni\, family and friends. NOTE: There is a minimum donation at the museum is $25 per person (at the door). This donation go directly to preserving\, displaying\, and displaying this tremendous collection. \nThe Museum of World War II boasts the most comprehensive collection of WWII documents and artifacts on display anywhere in the world\, with over 7\,000 artifacts on display; more than 500\,000 documents and photographs are in the research archives. DESCRIPTION:Join the NIUAA for the next G2G Dinner on Tuesday\, January 24\, 2017 with special guests Admiral Thad Allen\, USCG (Ret.). This event is open to NIU alumni and current students\, as well as current and former staff and faculty. Due to the limited size of the room\, we will not be able to accommodate spouses or non-alumni guests at this event. \nAdmiral Thad W. Allen\, USCG (ret.) served as the 23rd Commandant of the US Coast Guard from 2006-2010. He is a native of Tucson\, AZ and graduated from the USCG Academy in 1971. Prior to selection as the Commandant\, he served in numerous positions including the Coast Guard Chief of Staff\, Chairman of the DHS Joint Requirements Council\, Principal Federal Official for Hurricane Katrina and Rita response and recovery\, and several senior Commands\, among many other assignments. \nOn 1 May 2010 President Barack Obama appointed Admiral Allen as the National Incident Commander (NIC) in charge of the nation’s response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill\, a position he held concurrently while finishing his tenure as Commandant. After his change-of-command ceremony President Obama and Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano asked Admiral Allen to continue his service to the nation as the National Incident Commander. \nPrior to joining Booz Allen\, Mr. Allen served with the Rand Corporation. As a Booz Allen Executive Vice President\, Thad Allen is a leader in the firm’s Departments of Justice and Homeland Security business in the civil market. He leads the development of thought leadership and client engagement regarding the future direction of law enforcement and homeland security. He is known for his expertise in bringing together government and non-government entities to address major challenges in a “whole of government” approach designed to achieve a unity of effort. \nHe is a Fellow in the National Academy of Public Administration and a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Mr. Allen also currently serves as a director on the Coast Guard Foundation and Partnership for Public Service. He is a member of the Board of Visitors for the National Intelligence University. \nAdmiral Allen holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the George Washington University and received the Alumni Achievement Award in 2006. He also holds a Master of Science degree from the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
